If the Deer Run Mine application permit by Hillsboro Energy LLC is approved by
Illinois Department of Natural Resources this community will be destroyed. The GOB
pile is to be located within a short distance from a hospital, nursing home, high school, Junior High and day care. Clouds of dust contaminated with dangerous contaminates will also be blowing into the homes of many residential blocks in the surrounding areas.
An unlined slurry will be located in the same area. There a great risk of those contaminates leaching into the ground water and into the drinking water.
A coal combustion waste facility was included in the plans and yet to be confirmed.
There is 12,160 acres of prime farmland in danger of being subsided. The rules
of SMCRA are so lax there will be no reclamation if the damage is technologically
and ecologically feasible.
This is only the beginning....Hillsboro Energy LLC/Colt mining own 125,000 acres of mineral rights in Montgomery County. IEC Montgomery/Drummond own
another 85,000 acres.
